Turbocharger M 50

Turbocharger R5-3
KBB manufactures exhaust-gas turbochargers with axial-flow and radial-flow turbines for medium-speed and high-speed diesel engines, heavy fuel engines and gas engines – as used on ships, in engine-generator sets, and in locomotive construction.

Overspeed tests are carried out separately for turbines and compressors in an overspeed test tunnel. In order to guarantee the precision of the component parts produced, 3-D co-ordinate measuring systems are employed.

The exhaust-gas turbocharger (TC) consists of an axial-flow or radial-flow turbine driven by the exhaust gases of the diesel engine, and of a radial-flow compressor positioned on the same shaft in specially designed sliding bearings.

The radial-flow compressor supplies the diesel engine with compressed air. This principle enables a higher amount of fuel to be burned by the engine, thus increasing the engine’s efficiency and improving the combustion process. Equally, the amount of harmful substances in the exhaust is reduced and consequently the overall efficiency of the engine is enhanced.

KBB turbochargers can be used for four-stroke diesel and gas engines in the output range 300 to 8000 kW. Currently, we produce in Bannewitz exhaust-gas turbochargers with radial-flow and axial-flow turbines. Among the special features of our turbochargers are internal rotors, water-cooled and non-cooled bearing housings as well as the use of precision multi-surface sliding bearings.

Identification
So that you may be able to recognise and identify our turbochargers exactly, we introduce you here to all the nameplate versions we have used in our 50 years of turbocharger production. The nameplate shows you the turbocharger type and serial number. On the basis of this information, we will be pleased to specify the replacement part you require.
